Miss Independent!

This is my new nickname for Hannah.  Over the past couple of days under different circumstances, she has proven to me that she is very independent and is going to do her own thing!  Saturday we were in a minor fender bender.  Someone rear ended me because he was not paying attention while putting an address into his GPS.  Thankfully no one was hurt and it just scared Hannah.  We took her to the Children's hospital just to make sure everything was ok.  She loved it!  Obviously she didn't realize where she was but she loved all the new sights and sounds.  She even loved her gown that they gave her to wear.  She was not bothered a bit and ate up all the attention that she received.  Thankfully she was fine and did not have any complications from the accident.

Then Sunday morning I volunteered in her nursery class at church.  I had been wondering how she did in the class because she never minded being dropped off and seemed fine when we picked her up.  So I got to see her in that environment and it was so cute.  She acted like I wasn't even in there and could care less if I picked up another baby.  She just did her thing in the bouncer and was so adorable when it was story time.  She just laughed and ate it up.  I couldn't believe what a big girl she was.  She never once cried and loved watching all the kids play.  I wish I had a picture of her in the bucket seat watching the puppets at story time...she was just precious!  If this is any indication how she will do when it's time to start school, I don't think we will have any problems.  I have a feeling she is going to be miss social butterfly at school.

So that brings me today.  We didn't quite make it to the 9month checkup like I was hoping for before we went in for another sick visit to the doctors.  Someone got a little stomach bug.  We were a little concerned that it may have been connected with the accident because she was vomiting and she wasn't keeping anything down.  It didn't really slow her down much.  She was still on the move!  Vomiting was the one thing the hospital told us to look out for but thankfully it was not from the accident.  So, I thought I would try to snuggle with my sick little girl and comfort her but she had other plans.  I tried to rock her, hold her, love on her but she wasn't having it.  The closet thing to snuggling that we got was her lying on my legs while I rocked her.  Even that didn't last but a few minutes.  She just has her own agenda!  So, I put her in her crib to nap and off she went to la la land!  I have come to the realization that unfortunately for me, my girl is not a snuggler whether she is sick or well.

So thankful to the Lord for my precious little girl!  He has made her to be one-of-a-kind and I'm blessed to be her mother :)

Playing catch up...on the last three months :)

Time is just flying by as we watch our little girl change each day.  I don't even have time to write about one month before the next one is over and gone with it.  So, I'm playing catch up for the past three months of Hannah's life.  So much has happened in these past few months and I know I'm probably going to forget something but I'll do my best!  I know it's crazy but I don't feel like she is a "baby" anymore.  We are just eating up every moment with her.  She is really interacting more and becoming more mobile.  Her little personality is blossoming and we get a kick out of her little mannerisms that she is beginning to develop.  So here is a little recap of everything that has happened...

5 Months Old:
Some of her new tricks were rolling over faster and more continuously to get where she wanted to go.  She also started getting on all fours and would bounce back and forth but could never get her legs to work with her arms to actually crawl.  She was sitting up but not very stable.  Even though she seemed to like seeing the world from a different perspective she doesn't seem to be one that will be stationary long.  She wants to move!  Every chance she gets to stand she does.  When she holds my fingers to pull up from lying down, she doesn't want to stop at the sitting position, she wants to continue on up to standing.  During this month she also started grabbing everything in sight!  She likes to touch things and feel the texture of objects.  She really has a good grip on things and could pass objects back and forth from her hands.  This became very handy because she could now find her pacifier and put it in her mouth all by herself. She became very distracted while eating if there was anything around her that she could reach.  She loved the cell phone and watching videos of herself.  I know this probably sounds ridiculous that it took this long but we finally got her on a good napping schedule during this month...hallelujah!  I finally had a designated time to get some work done.  She was still sleeping through the night without any problems.   We would put her down around 8 and she would sleep anywhere from 6:30-7am.  She really loves books so we started making it part of the bedtime routine that we would read her a story.  She knows the bedtime books so if you read them at any other time of the day, she is not too happy :)

We had a couple of visitors during this month.  A college friend of mine, her husband and three children were passing through Charleston so they came over for dinner one night.  It was so good to see them and Hannah loved watching the kids play.  She was fascinated by them and kept her laughing.

Her Gigi, Pop and Uncle Scott came to visit during the end of this month so we enjoyed spending time with them and they loved every minute with Hannah.  They actually watched her one night for Paul and I to go out on our first date since having her.  It was the weirdest feeling not having her with us but was so nice to have the time for just the two of us.  We went to one of our favorite restaurants, The Red Drum, and then Paul got an emergency call so we had to go into the office to see a patient...we were just thankful for a great dinner together :)
We went to Beaufort for a day trip

Some other changes...

  • Her hair continued to thin out and lighten up but were still able to put a bow in it :).
  • Started teething
  • Began eating more vegetables and started on some fruit.  Did not like peas and green beans, one bit!  She did and still does this gaging noise when eating either of them.  She likes carrots, sweet potatoes and squash.  There is not a fruit that she does not like.
  • Started sleeping on her stomach.  Made me a little nervous but she wouldn't stay on her back.
  • LOVES listening to her daddy play the guitar and sing.
  • Stats from her six month check up: Ht 26" (52.88%) Wt 15.9lbs (38.35%)

6 Months Doctors Appointment

6 Months Old:
This month was crazy busy with Nana visiting and then Hannah's first plane ride to see her great grandparents in Ohio.  She also became a lot more mobile!

Nana came to visit at the beginning of this month and Hannah enjoyed spending some time with her.  She also watched her one night for us to go to a meeting at church so we didn't have to put her in the nursery.  We snuck in a little Chipotle dinner date afterwards :)

Towards the end of this month we flew up to Ohio to see Paul's grandparents for Labor Day.  We enjoyed spending time with them and got to enjoy Ohio a little bit.  Hannah went to her first amusement park.  Mommy and Daddy enjoyed it more than she did.  Papa came along and watched Hannah for us to go on some of the roller coasters :)  We went to the annual Labor Day picnic at the Schirappas.  These are good family friends of Paul's grandparents and Paul used to work at their hotel in high school.  It was neat for them to meet Hannah and it's always good to see them.  It is a very large Italian family so there is always good food and company.  Hannah did pretty well for her first plane ride.  We found out she had an ear infection the morning we left so the antibiotics were not able to kick in fast enough before the flight but we had some drops that helped with the pressure.  She did pretty well for not feeling well.

Some other highlights...
  • First cold & ear infection :(
  • Pulled herself up on her own in the crib - lowered her mattress
  • Sits up on her own and is stable
  • Started going to the church nursery.  Didn't mind one bit being dropped off...it was harder on daddy than anyone.
  • Said Mama

 7 Months Old

7 Months Old:
Just when we finally had a schedule down, things changed!  This month we found ourselves at the doctors a few more times with a throat virus and then eczema.  We added more solids to her diet but was still drinking at least 24oz of milk a day.  So, she would eat oatmeal for breakfast, a fruit for lunch and a vegetable for dinner.  She would have her milk in between her solid feedings.  I thought she was ready to take her mid day nap away so we did that for a few weeks and she was doing ok but it didn't last long.  We are back to two short naps and one longer one in the afternoon.

One of the biggest milestones for this month was she began crawling.  Just three days after turning 7 months she started crawling.  She wasn't real confident at first and still wanted to straighten her legs so she could stand but once she figured out she could get where she wanted to go faster by crawling, she was gone!

She also took her second plane trip to Maine for a wedding.  One of Paul's friends from his residency down in St. Pete was getting married so we got to enjoy their special day and also see the beautiful foliage at this time of year.  Neither of us had been to Maine before so we were excited to check it out and especially during Fall.  It was absolutely beautiful and Hannah did a great job traveling.

Some other firsts...

  • Rode in a grocery cart for the first time...she LOVED IT!  She is so nosey so she loved being able to see everything going on around her.
  • Pulled herself up on everything!
  • Walked around her crib by holding on to the railings.
  • Went to her first wedding.
  • Experienced her first college football season :)
  • First oatmeal bath to help her eczema

8 Months Old

So that pretty much wraps up the past three months of the Doughty life.  I will try to do a better job of posting a month at a time so it's not so long the next time.
